I have a 2002 hyundia elantra with about 75,000 miles on it.Somone told me the tranny fluid should be changed.
But i heard not to because it can break the natural seal it makes and may mess it up?
It doesnt leak and runs fine.
Will any damage happen if i just leave it be and just make sure its full?
Should i change tranny fluid?
pull out your dipstick and inspect the fluid if it is really dark this means the components in the fluid are breaking down. even if your vehicle runs fine the fluid breakdown will cause temperature changes and could shorten the lifespan of your trans.if u do decide to change your fluid the only way to completely change the fluid is to flush it with a machine.just draining will only remove a couple of quarts and you have at least 4 in your torque converter alone.also make sure u find out what type of trans fluid is for your vehicle. there are many different types and using the wrong one can damage your trans or cause it to slip.
Should i change tranny fluid?
change it and buy a new gasket

Cars should get tranny fluid changed every 30K to 50k miles (depending on cars). Rarely cars like VW/audi/BMW have long mileage system (100k). But their tranny oil change is even more expensive.

If you wait till it leaks, then you don't need oil change. You need a new tranny. Besides the oil leaks from broken seal (has nothing to do with bad or worn out oil). You can break a seal with brand new tranny and too much tranny oil.

There's a lot of myth about NOT changing oil. But essentially what people do is wait and wait and then the tranny starts to slip. By this time the tranny is almost gone.
So as last resort they try changing the oil. Then few hundred to few thousand miles later the tranny finally dies, but then people blame the oil CHANGE instead of blaming the lack of change up to this time.

Do it now and be happy. You are over due.
Good luck...
Sounds like it is time for a tranny fluid change and a new filter. It is a messy job to do yourself. Easier to let a garage do the work.
Fluid of any kind that involves moving parts and friction, will need replacing. In an automatic transmission there are clutch bands that wear. The worn parts mix with the fluid and are caught in the filter. The heavier parts form a sludge and fall to the bottom. There is usually a magnet in the bottom of the pan to attract the metal in the sludge.
At a point the filter, as with all filters, stop up. This causes the transmission to starve for fluid and wear to a point of slipping.
All filters have a maintenance schedule that needs to be followed. Failure to do this can result in serious expense.
change it. the oil is cheaper than a new transmission.
