ok I just bought a 2005 ninja 636 from the local cycle shop and now its time to change the fluids.
what oil and break fluid would be best for it?
2005 ninja fluids?which ones?
There is a variety of motorcycle specific oils out there to choose from if that is the way you wish to go. at this time of year I would put in 10W40.
Brake fluid -Castrol GTLMA is the only brake fluid I use in my shop. It is the only one guaranteed to blend with any previous brake fluid. Why is this important. Because you never get all the brake fluid out, and because if you choose a fluid that does not play well with the previous brand of fluid, you will damage the rubber internals of the brake system-rubber seals, hose internals etc. In 30 years of using GTLMA I have never had a problem. There are people here who will tell you that brake fluid is brake fluid. and as long as you use the recommended DOT number you will be fine. That may well be, I can't contradict that. I can go with the specs I personally have seen and the performance and trust that 30 years of using a product has given me.
You can get motorcycle specific oil in almost any auto parts store cheaper than at the dealer. You can also get GTLMA brake fluid there or at any Walmart, Kmart etc.
2005 ninja fluids?which ones?
Any good synthetic MOTORCYCLE specific oil (BelRay, Amsoil, Maxima, Motul, Silkolene, etc...)
You need motorcycle oil because the oil also lubricates the clutch. Standard (non-motorcycle specific) oil does not have the necessary additives to keep the clutch plates lubricated and will cause slipping.
Your bike should use 10W40, but check the owner's manual to verify.
The same companies also sell motorcycle %26quot;geared%26quot; brake fluid. You should always use new, fresh fluid from a sealed container. Your bike should use DOT4 (check the cap or owner's manual to be sure.)
You need to buy and read the manual.
