I bought it used, so I'm thinking it was broke in tougher than I would drive it. I would just do ONE transmission fluid/ filter change. Or should I just let it go the way it is?

Until you hit 50k, i wouldn't concern yourself with it. Standard service interval is every 50k miles for trans fluid/filter.
